Who began Zziwa Academy?

Kennedy Zziwa is the visionary behind Zziwa Academy, as well as the founder of Hair By Zziwa. Although the Nansana branch has been operational since April, it was officially opening on this day. The Zziwa Academy main branch is located in Banda. According to students, it has been a cornerstone of vocational training since its establishment in 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

What skills does Zziwa Academy offer?

Zziwa Academy specializes in imparting practical skills that prepare students for the workforce. The curriculum includes a wide range of salon skills such as hairstyling, tailoring, makeup, hairdressing, pedicure, manicure, and more. These courses are designed to be accessible and manageable, with short courses ranging from 2 to 5 months and more comprehensive programs lasting up to 2 years. The academy offers both certificate and diploma programs, catering to various levels of expertise and commitment.

Is Zziwa Academy worth the investment for quality education?

The students at Zziwa Academy find the practical approach to be more graspable compared to the traditional UNEB exams. One such student, Lubowa Nasif, shared his inspiring journey: “You can join the academy even if you feel like you have failed in formal education. These days all jobs are possible. Doing hair or makeup has no particular gender. They should join us so that Uganda can be the best in hairstyling. I started as a cleaner without any knowledge, but I watched people do hair and gained interest. Honestly, I was inspired by Madam Shamirah. She was liked by all hair clients because of how she handled them. I was just a worker when I got an opportunity with Mr. Zziwa.”

Who was the guest of honor?

The launch event was graced by Hon. Amelia Kyambadde as the special guest of honor. Her presence underscored the importance of vocational education in Uganda’s socio-economic landscape. Other notable guests included Abassi, Malaika Nyanzi, Bbosa, and JK Kazora, whose attendance highlighted the broad support for Zziwa’s mission.

Lilian Mbabazi Performance and Surprise Announcement

The evening featured captivating performances, including a melodious session by Lilian Mbabazi. Mbabazi, a celebrated artist, took the opportunity to announce the Blu*3 reunion scheduled for June 22, 2024. Despite rumors suggesting the reunion is driven by profit rather than genuine reconciliation among Jackie Chandiru, Lilian Mbabazi, and Cinderella Sanyu, the announcement added a layer of excitement to the event.

Radio personality Deedan brought her charismatic energy to the event, speaking profoundly of Zziwa, the founder of Hair By Zziwa. Her endorsement further cemented the academy’s reputation as a beacon of vocational training.

Zziwa Academy Graduation

The launch also doubled as a graduation ceremony for hundreds of students who had completed their courses at Zziwa Academy. Clad in beautiful maroon gowns, the graduates were awarded certificates and diplomas by Hon. Amelia Kyambadde. One proud parent expressed, “I am so happy. The child keeps the hand skills forever, unlike formal jobs,” highlighting the enduring value of vocational training.

What else happened?

The opening of the Nansana branch is a significant expansion for Zziwa Academy, which aims to make vocational training accessible to more young people. The day’s activities began with a master class led by experts like Joram Job Muzira, offering invaluable insights to the attendees. The event also showcased fashion designs from Abbas Kaijuka, Anita Beryl, and House of Senkulu, adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings.

Who were the partners at Zziwa Academy Nansana launch?

Sponsored by Cantu, KCB Foundation, and Strait Bridals, the launch was a well-supported affair. The vibrant atmosphere was enriched by performances from KaRungi, Lilian Mbabazi, and a live band, ensuring that the guests left with fond memories of the celebration.

In his speech, Zziwa emphasized the academy’s dedication to providing high-quality hairdressing training and its role in shaping the future of Uganda’s beauty industry. Amelia Kyambadde echoed these sentiments in her address, praising the academy for its contribution to vocational education.
