Songstress Vivian Tendo has sparked conversation by openly rejecting traditional gender roles, boldly stating that she has never knelt for her husband, Pastor Moses Tinsley. Her views challenge the cultural norms of most Bantu tribes, where women are expected to kneel for their husbands, particularly when greeting or serving them meals.

Recently, social media buzzed with photos showing Vivian’s husband in the kitchen, cooking for the day, leading netizens to speculate that she was disrespecting his role as the head of the household. However, Vivian was quick to clear the air, revealing that the photos were not leaked but posted by her husband himself.

“Those photos did not leak; it was my husband who posted them. It was not a secret. And I think people miss out on a lot of things, like those photos he posted, they did not bother to read the caption but jumped to conclusions that I’m mistreating him,” Vivian Tendo laughed, dismissing the assumptions.

The ‘Dose’ hitmaker praised her husband, describing him as unique, carefree, and supportive, noting that he doesn’t take offense to her choice not to kneel. Vivian emphasized that her husband doesn’t subscribe to traditional masculine expectations, and instead enjoys their equal and loving partnership.

“Besides that, God is good that he didn’t give me these regular men that most of you people are used to. Even when a man marries you, you do not turn into a donkey. I do not kneel while serving my husband because he is not a Muganda. There is no problem in that, and I believe such things are from way back in the African Traditional Society. The good thing is he doesn’t receive it in a bad way,” Vivian Tendo said.

Vivian’s comments come amid a wider debate on gender roles in Uganda, particularly after a recent video showed Minister of State for Minerals Phiona Nyamutooro serving juice to her husband Eddy Kenzo while standing. While some netizens criticized her for not kneeling, Vivian offered a different perspective.

“Those who comment such things even beat their men but they are talking about someone who served her husband juice while standing,” Vivian Tendo noted, calling out the hypocrisy of online critics.

Vivian Tendo and Pastor Moses Tinsley recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, having tied the knot on July 15, 2023, at Voyager Beach in Mombasa. The couple continues to enjoy a loving and equal partnership, with family plans likely on the horizon.
