How many students graduated from Kyambogo University during the 20th Graduation ceremony in 2024?

Kyambogo University officially kicked off its 20th graduation ceremony on December 10, 2024, at the university’s main campus in Kampala. The four-day event celebrates the achievements of 11,721 students who have completed their studies across a wide range of disciplines. Among these, 6,017 are female and 5,704 are male graduates, showcasing a balanced gender representation. The best-performing student is Grace Rukwanzi from the School of Management and Entrepreneurship, with a remarkable CGPA of 4.90, while Okwang Justine Joel from the School of Computing and Information Science achieved the highest CGPA among male graduates, at 4.81.

What do you need to know?

During the first day of the ceremony, 3,146 students from the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation and the School of Management and Entrepreneurship were awarded degrees and diplomas. The university leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, highlighted ongoing initiatives to enhance the student experience. Prof. Katunguka announced plans to build student hostels with a capacity of 5,000 rooms to accommodate 10,000 students, aiming to create a conducive environment for learning. The best-performing student is Grace Rukwanzi from the School of Management and Entrepreneurship, with a remarkable CGPA of 4.90, while Okwang Justine Joel from the School of Computing and Information Science achieved the highest CGPA among male graduates, at 4.81.

Message from the president to Kyambogo graduates

Addressing the graduates, Vice President Jessica Alupo, who represented President Museveni, emphasized the importance of aligning personal ambitions with national development goals. She urged the youth to focus on building Uganda’s human resource capacity and take advantage of the country’s resources to drive industrialization and modernization.

The university’s Chancellor, Prof. John Okedi, emphasized the importance of curriculum development, mentioning ongoing reviews to ensure programs align with job market demands. Additionally, alumni have been called upon to support the construction of a modern student centre, including guild offices, a dean of students’ office, shops, and recreational facilities.

The ceremony continues, with thousands more students from other faculties, including the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Engineering, set to graduate over the next few days. By the end of the event, eight PhDs and 219 master’s degrees will have been conferred. The graduation is taking place physically at the university’s graduation grounds until 13th December 2024. The Uganda Police have assured attendees of safety throughout the ceremonies​.

Kyambogo University 20th Graduation schedule

  • Tuesday, December 10, 2024:
    Graduands from the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, and School of Management and Entrepreneurship were presented.
  • Wednesday, December 11, 2024:
    The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, School of Vocational Studies, School of Art and Industrial Design, and Faculty of Agriculture take the stage.
  • Thursday, December 12, 2024:
    The Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, School of Computing and Information Science, and School of Built Environment will follow.
  • Friday, December 13, 2024:
    The final day will feature graduates from the School of Education, Faculty of Engineering, and Institute of Distance Education and E-Learning.
