Patience Ozokwor, a legendary figure in Nollywood, Nigeria’s vibrant film industry is set to visit Uganda on 29th March, 2025, sparking excitement among fans and film enthusiasts in the region. Widely known by her affectionate nickname “Mama G” (short for “General”), Ozokwor has carved out an illustrious career spanning over two decades, with more than 300 films to her credit. Her upcoming trip to Uganda, scheduled for March 29, 2025, is tied to her participation in the 2025 iKON Awards, a prestigious event celebrating cinematic excellence, to be held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Who is Patience Ozokwor?

Ozokwor’s journey to stardom began in the late 1990s, with her breakthrough role in the 1999 film Authority. Born on September 14, 1958, in Amaobo, Ngwo, Enugu State, Nigeria. she grew up in humble circumstances, facing challenges. Despite these obstacles, her passion for acting shone through from a young age. Initially a schoolteacher and radio drama performer, she was famously drawn into Nollywood by peers, including the late Pete Eneh and Chika Okpala (Chief Zebrudaya), who recognized her comedic talent and commanding presence during a university program. This marked the start of a career that would make her a household name across Africa and beyond.

Patience Ozokwor aka Mama G

Renowned for her versatility, Ozokwor is celebrated for portraying strong, often morally complex characters—most notably the stern, wicked mother or mother-in-law in classics like Ukwa (2001), Blood Sister (2003), and Billionaires Club (2003). Her ability to blend humor, drama, and intensity has earned her critical acclaim, including the Best Supporting Actress award at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2012 and 2013, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2023. Beyond acting, she’s a singer, fashion designer, and philanthropist, embodying a legacy that transcends the screen.

Has Patience Ozokwor Visited Uganda in the Past?

Her visit to Uganda is not her first engagement with the country’s film community. In 2021, she attended the launch of the Uganda Film Festival as a guest of honor, where she shared insights on Nollywood’s growth and offered advice to Uganda’s budding film industry. She emphasized patience, training, and gradual development—values that have underpinned her own success and Nollywood’s rise as a global cinematic force. This time, her presence at the iKON Awards underscores her status as an influential figure whose work has inspired filmmakers and actors across borders.
