What happened to Fik Gaza?
Rising Ugandan dancehall artiste Shafiq Jjingo, popularly known by his stage name Fik Gaza, is among four individuals arrested in a police operation targeting suspected robbers in Katwe Division and nearby areas.
Why did Police arrest Fik Gaza?
The arrests were made on Thursday, April 3, 2025, during a targeted operation led by security forces in response to a recent spike in robbery cases reported to Katwe Police.
“Following a surge in robbery incidents within Katwe and its outskirts, we conducted an intelligence-led operation at the residence of Mr. Shafiq Jjingo, alias Fik Gaza,” confirmed Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango. “We apprehended four suspects during the operation.”
High-Profile Suspects Apprehended
Among those arrested are Najib Magoola, David Mutuba—also known as Marvin Gaza—and Charles Zziwa, alias Mzungu, a fugitive who had previously escaped custody while facing murder charges.
Authorities allege that Jjingo’s home served as a hideout for several of the city’s most wanted criminals.
Weapons and Narcotics Seized
During the raid, police recovered a number of suspicious items, including pangas (machetes), military-style clothing, and substances believed to be narcotics. These will serve as critical evidence in the upcoming prosecution.
“Case files have been prepared and sanctioned against all individuals apprehended during the operation,” Onyango added.
A Troubled Turn for the Budding Musician
Jjingo began his professional music journey in 2018 after splitting from fellow artiste Patrick Mulwana, known as Alien Skin, to form his own label, Gaza Empire. He gained fame with hits such as Banana, Bukuta Bukuta, Muchezo, Butiti, Nsigo, Hello, and Sanyu.
Pattern of Violence in Music Circles?
His arrest follows recent legal troubles involving Alien Skin, who was granted bail months ago after being charged with robbery and assault. That case involved an attack on staff members at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya.
Police have not ruled out further arrests as investigations continue into the criminal network linked to the suspects.
