The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the country’s principal agency responsible for producing official statistics, has announced exciting employment opportunities for the upcoming Aquaculture Census 2025. UBOS is seeking highly competent, motivated, and dynamic individuals to join the census team as enumerators. This initiative underscores UBOS’s commitment to maintaining a robust National Statistical System by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating standardized statistical information across Uganda.

About the Aquaculture Census 2025

The Aquaculture Census 2025 is a critical exercise aimed at gathering comprehensive data on aquaculture activities in Uganda. As the agency tasked with coordinating and supervising the National Statistical System, UBOS is calling for applications from results-oriented team players with high integrity to conduct this nationwide enumeration. The census will take place from May 1 to May 30, 2025, and successful candidates will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate data collection.

UBOS Announces Aquaculture Census 2025 Job Opportunities

Job Details: Enumerator Role

Job Title: Enumerator

  • Job Reference: UBOS/40/4/10
  • Reports To: Field Supervisor
  • Employment Terms: Temporary (May 1–30, 2025)
  • Job Summary: To conduct enumeration of all aquaculture activities in assigned enumeration areas.

Key Responsibilities

Enumerators will be responsible for:

  1. Participating in all training sessions and meeting assessment criteria.
  2. Locating fish farms in assigned districts.
  3. Identifying and interviewing selected respondents, recording responses accurately using the provided application.
  4. Identifying and correcting errors or inconsistencies in data during interviews in consultation with respondents.
  5. Ensuring the confidentiality of all collected data.
  6. Managing and safeguarding survey materials and equipment allocated to them.
  7. Synchronizing data collected after each interview.
  8. Preparing and submitting daily progress reports to the supervisor.
  9. Submitting an end-of-activity report to the supervisor.
  10. Observing research ethics as guided.
  11. Performing additional duties as assigned by the field supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for the enumerator position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of an Ordinary Level Certificate (Uganda Certificate of Education) or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of a credit score in Mathematics and English at O-level.

Experience

While prior experience is not mandatory, training in fisheries or aquaculture is considered an added advantage.

Skills and Attributes

Applicants should possess the following:

  1. A valid National Identity Card.
  2. A Tax Identification Number (TIN) and registration with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
  3. Residency in the district where they wish to work.
  4. Age between 18 and 50 years.
  5. Knowledge of basic computer applications.
  6. A smartphone and a phone number registered for mobile money in their name.
  7. Experience in data collection for censuses or surveys.
  8. Swimming skills.
  9. Good communication skills.
  10. A reputation as a responsible citizen with good character and integrity.
  11. Full availability for the duration of the aquaculture census (May 1–30, 2025).

UBOS has streamlined the application process through an online system. Interested candidates must submit their applications by 5:00 PM on April 25, 2025, via the official UBOS recruitment portal: aquaculturerecruitment.ubos.org. Hardcopy applications will not be accepted.

  1. Create an Account: Visit the account creation page and provide a valid email address.
  2. Verify Your Email: Check your inbox for a confirmation email and activate your account by clicking the provided link.
  3. Log In: Use your registered email and password to access the portal.
  4. Navigate to Vacancies: Browse available jobs on the Job Vacancies page.
  5. Choose a Job: Click “Details” to review the enumerator role and ensure you meet the eligibility criteria.
  6. Apply: Click “Apply Now” and fill out the application form with your personal details, educational qualifications, relevant training, employment history, and referees.
  7. Accept Terms: Agree to the declaration to proceed.
  8. Finalize and Log Out: Submit your application and log out. You can return later to make edits if needed.

Note: Applicants will only be considered for the positions they apply for, and incomplete applications will not be processed.

  • Verification: All submitted documents will be verified with relevant authorities. Falsification of documents will lead to prosecution.
