Recently, GNL Zamba real name Ernest Nsimbi, posted on his X account listing what he considers the biggest artists in Uganda. In his post — which he notes “the order isn’t right musically” — he names Bobi Wine, then himself, and Bebe Cool.

For years, there has been a general consensus that the “Big Three” Biggest Artists in Uganda in Ugandan music are Bobi Wine, Bebe Cool, and Jose Chameleone. However, some artists and fans have questioned the origins and legitimacy of this list.

GNL Zamba didn’t stop at simply naming his picks. He went on to give reasons for his selection. He wrote:

“To earn that spot, you must: have a wedded wife, own a mansion, drop a catalog of 200+ songs, have international appeal, fill stadiums in every district of Uganda , and impactfully shift culture by signing or promoting at least three other artists. Career longevity of 15+ years. We did all that, and we’re still doing it.”

Netizens Respond to Zamba’s Biggest Artists in Uganda

Here are some of the reactions online about who the Biggest Artists in Uganda are:

“The world is looking for the man who has done something, not a man who can explain what he has done. Those are not my words, but let the things you’ve done speak for you. If you speak for them, it means you’ve done nothing. I came in peace, G.”

“I’m Gen Z, but listening to just one song by Zamba is enough to tell he’s a great musician. NB: Not everyone here understands music.”

“When did GNL Zamba last perform in any Teso district? Someone please tell me why I missed seeing our Boma grounds/stadiums filled to capacity by him.”

“My brother @therealGnlzamba, you’re on your own list. No one can take your position as Uganda’s best hip-hop artist. You move quiet, but the ground still shakes. Words like fire—don’t burn skin, but melt the soul. A real lion doesn’t need noise. As for the top 3, you don’t exist there. Stay humble.”

“I’ve never seen Chris Brown post such comparisons. Actually, these kinds of posts are what have contributed to the downfall of our entertainment industry.”

Is Zamba’s Post about the Biggest Artists in Uganda a Publicity Stunt?

Some have accused GNL Zamba of using the “Top 4 Biggest Artists” post as a marketing tactic to promote his upcoming festival — Yenze Hip Hop Cultural Fest : The Evolution, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
