KAMPALA, UGANDA | June 28, 2025 — Ugandan singer Dax Vibez has been dealt a major blow after his long-awaited concert scheduled for 29th August 2025 at Hotel Africana was abruptly cancelled by the venue’s management, sparking confusion, public outrage, and speculation about the reasons behind the move.

The announcement was made by Dax Vibez himself through his official social media pages on Saturday evening, where he expressed deep disappointment with Hotel Africana for the unexplained cancellation, just two months before the event.

“After nine months of preparation and investing heavily in advertisements, Hotel Africana has cancelled my concert,” the singer posted.

A Blow to the Young Artist’s Ambitions

Dax Vibez, known for his soulful voice and conscious lyrics, has steadily risen through Uganda’s music ranks over the years. His August concert was widely expected to be his biggest headline show yet, positioned to showcase his musical evolution and expanding fan base.

The event had been advertised since late 2024, with posters and digital campaigns running across radio, television, and online platforms. A-list guest performers and DJs had also reportedly been lined up to support the show.

While Dax did not offer specific reasons for the cancellation, sources close to the venue cited security concerns as the likely cause, though no official statement has been released by Hotel Africana as of Saturday night.

Political Undertones?

The cancellation has revived discussions about the increasing politicization of entertainment spaces in Uganda. Dax Vibez is the younger brother of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine)—a factor some observers believe may have influenced the hotel’s decision.

This isn’t the first time Hotel Africana has shut its doors on a major local event. In February 2025, artist Alien Skin’s concert was similarly cancelled just days before showtime, also under unclear but allegedly security-related reasons.

Public Reaction and Speculation

Fans have flooded social media with disappointment and disbelief, demanding answers. Several have suggested the move may be a publicity stunt, with rumors swirling that Dax might be planning to relocate the concert to Lugogo Cricket Oval, a larger venue that has hosted some of Uganda’s biggest concerts in recent years.

“Could this be a clever shift in venue to create buzz and attract a larger crowd?” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Or is this yet another example of creative censorship disguised as a ‘security measure’?” another questioned.

Theories aside, the cancellation has undeniably put the spotlight back on freedom of expression in Uganda’s creative industry and the uneasy relationship between politics, business, and the arts.

What’s Next for Dax Vibez?

As of now, Dax Vibez has not confirmed whether the concert will be rescheduled or moved to a different location. Industry insiders suggest the team is weighing options, with Lugogo Cricket Oval and Freedom City among the possible alternatives.

Supporters are urging the artist to remain firm and find a way to move forward.

Conclusion

Whether this cancellation was due to legitimate security concerns, political pressure, or simply a poorly communicated logistical issue, one thing is certain: Dax Vibez’s story has captured national attention. With his growing influence and loyal fan base, all eyes will be on how he responds—and whether this setback might turn into a moment of triumph.
