A Decade of Legacy

100.2 East FM Tororo, Uganda, has emerged as a leading radio station in Eastern Uganda since its founding in 2014. As a subsidiary of the TAN Group of Companies, owned by the Tanna family, the station was established under the leadership of former Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Sanjay Tanna. The TAN Group, with a legacy in telecom distribution, oil, Nile Breweries products, tour and travel, property, and mineral water manufacturing, expanded into media with East FM as its flagship radio arm, delivering a unique blend of entertainment and information tailored to the region’s dynamic audience.

East FM Tororo: Our Founding Story and Mission

Launched in 2014, 100.2 East FM was created to serve as “Eastern Uganda’s most listened to English radio station,” broadcasting a variety of programs, including news, talk shows, contemporary music, and top hits. The station’s slogan, “Midundo Zaidi” (Swahili for “More Music”), along with “The Sun Is Here, Let The Music Play,” reflects its commitment to delivering vibrant, urban content that resonates with listeners aged 15 to 60, particularly English-speaking professionals. With state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment, East FM has set itself apart as a station that combines an authentic Eastern Ugandan identity with a modern, urban feel.

The station’s mission is to cater to the lifestyle of the audience that drives the local economy, offering “edutainment” (education and entertainment) through programming in English, Swahili, and local languages. This multilingual approach has made East FM Tororo accessible to a broad demographic, particularly the youth, while maintaining its status as a regional media powerhouse.

100.2 East FM Tororo: Coverage Area & Community Impact

Broadcasting from Tororo, a key municipal, administrative, and commercial hub in Eastern Uganda, East FM covers a 150-kilometer radius, reaching regions such as Busoga, Bukedi, Teso, Bugisu, Kapchorwa, and islands on Lake Victoria, as well as parts of Western Kenya. This extensive coverage has positioned East FM as a vital link for communities across Eastern Uganda and beyond, fostering regional connectivity through music, news, and cultural programming.

East FM Tororo’s Growth and Community Involvement

Since its inception, East FM has grown into a cultural institution in Eastern Uganda, known for its engaging shows and community-focused initiatives. The station’s annual Burudika Na East FM event, launched to celebrate its anniversaries, has become a hallmark of its commitment to uniting the community through music and entertainment. The 2024 edition, marking nine years of broadcasting, featured artists like Spice Diana, B2C Soldiers, and Acidic Vokoz, alongside local talents such as Sande King and Ushmel, showcasing the station’s dedication to promoting both established and emerging artists.

Previous Burudika events, such as the 2022 celebration featuring Sheebah Karungi, drew massive crowds and highlighted East FM’s ability to attract top-tier talent while celebrating its milestones. These events, held at venues like Lions Children’s Park in Tororo, offer family-friendly activities, prize giveaways, and performances, reinforcing the station’s role as a community pillar.

Programming and Impact

East FM’s programming is designed to reflect the diverse interests of its listeners, offering a mix of music genres, talk shows, and news that address local and regional issues. Its use of multiple languages, including Swahili and local dialects, ensures inclusivity, while its online streaming platforms have expanded its reach to a global audience. The station’s ability to blend entertainment with education has made it a trusted source of information and a platform for local artists to gain exposure.

A Decade of Legacy

As East FM approaches its 10th anniversary in 2025, the Burudika Na East FM @ 10 event on September 6 at Lions Children’s Park promises to be its most ambitious celebration yet, featuring artists like Cindy Sanyu, Pallaso, Vyroota, and Fresh Kid. This milestone underscores the station’s decade-long journey as a leader in Eastern Uganda’s media landscape, delivering high-quality content and fostering community unity. From its founding in 2014 to its current status as a regional media leader, 100.2 East FM has transformed the airwaves of Eastern Uganda, blending urban sophistication with local authenticity. Its commitment to innovation, community engagement, and cultural celebration ensures that it will continue to thrive as a vital voice in the region for years to come.
