Kampala, Uganda – The nonpartisan civic movement Uganda First has issued a statement urging Ugandans to remain calm and prioritize the country’s national interest following the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The movement acknowledged the participation of millions of citizens despite what it described as “challenging circumstances,” while also highlighting reports from observers and voters regarding transparency, access to information, and the overall conduct of the elections.
“While we respect the participation of all Ugandans, we urge caution and responsible engagement,” Uganda First said. “Violence, incitement, and division weaken the very country we all share.”

Focus Shifts to Upcoming Local Elections
Looking ahead to local government elections, Uganda First stressed the importance of grassroots leadership, noting that leaders at village, parish, sub-county, and municipal levels directly affect education, healthcare, infrastructure, and community development. The movement called on citizens and institutions to ensure transparent and accountable processes, fair treatment of all candidates and voters, peaceful participation, and leadership based on competence, integrity, and service.

Nation Before Party or Individual
Uganda First also reiterated its nonpartisan stance, emphasizing that its loyalty lies with the nation rather than any party or individual.
“The country comes before party. The nation comes before individuals. Uganda comes first, always,” the statement said.
The movement’s message arrives as Uganda prepares for local government elections, a critical period for civic engagement and accountability. Uganda First says that responsible participation at the local level is essential for fostering effective leadership and building a stronger, united country.
