The Voice Africa, connected by Airtel, is a singing competition among 14 African countries. It is the very first continental African version of The Voice Nigeria, The Voice South Africa and The Voice Global. where seven Ugandans will contend against contestants from 13 African nations including Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, DRC among others.

When And How The Voice Started Till It Came To Africa

It premiered on 26th April 2011 as an American singing reality competition television series.The show broadcast for the first time on NBC based on the original The Voice of Holland and part of The Voice franchise. The Voice was created by John de Mol and has had several judges like Alicia Keys, John Legend, Ariana Grande, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus,Usher and many more. The Voice Africa has been announced in 2022 and it follows the exact same criteria as the original one.

What Is The Voice And How Does It Work?

The entire process starts by submission of videos of interested participants to The Voice Africa website. Accepted participants go through rigorous auditions to cut the number down to 7 from each country. In the next stage, popularly known as Blind Auditions, the winner impresses impresses the judges by their voice. This works without seeing their faces. Next level is where television viewers start voting by telephone, internet, SMS text, and and many other methods.

The Voice Africa Grand Prize Winners

The winner walks away with US$100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group for winning the competition. Meanwhile, all participants at this level each get $5000 even without winning. On top of this, they get a huge following thanks to the millions of viewers of the show from all over the world. Wondering when it will start? The Voice Africa Official broadcast in Nigeria will start in March 2023.

How Musical Contests Have Grown Talent In Africa

Musical contests are famous for producing some of the best musical and vocal talents world-over. This is because contestants under thorough training and mentorship from renowned coaches and artists for a given duration. Some examples of these include Tusker Project Fame, Coca-Cola Rated Next, and East Africa’s Got Talent. Recently, Airtel partnered with NTV Uganda to give young talent a chance to showcase their talent by recording a one-minute video of them singing, then they proceed to register, and upload the video to www.thevoice.africa.com. Airtel has invested to ignite more interest in Uganda’s Music Industry and its commercialization. Airtel Uganda has set up areas that support intending contestants to upload the required information at Akamwesi Mall in Kampala, Capital Shoppers Supermarket in Kampala, next to Agip Motel in Mbarara, Gardens Restaurant Café in Fort Portal. Other activation points are in Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Gulu and Arua.
