This article explores the challenges faced, the steps being taken to address them, and the university’s commitment to maintaining its international reputation. This all was derived from that message.

Identifying the Challenges of Expired Courses

Several factors have contributed to the accreditation concerns at Makerere University. Both the university and The National Council for Higher Education ( NCHE ) share responsibility for the situation.

Delays in the review process of programs by departments, schools, and colleges, as well as at the Senate level, have led to unacceptable lapses in re-accreditation.

Similarly, the NCHE has experienced delays in processing programs for accreditation and updating their website, which has exacerbated the problem.

Programs Affected

The programs affected by accreditation issues fall into three categories:

Discontinued or Merged Programs: Some programs have been discontinued or merged with others, rendering their accreditation status obsolete.

Programs Under Review: Several programs have been submitted to the NCHE for accreditation but are awaiting final approval.

Programs Undergoing Internal Review: A number of programs at Makerere University are currently in the process of being reviewed internally before being submitted for accreditation.

Rectifying the Situation of Expired Courses

Makerere University recognizes the need to rectify these accreditation challenges promptly. Efforts are underway to collaborate with the NCHE to correct errors on their website, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available.
