Sunday 27, March 2022 saw popular actor Will Smith do the unthinkable that he latter came out to term as “ shocking, painful and inexcusable.”
On that day, Chris Rock ,a household darling among the comedy fans made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith majestically moved on the stage and slapped Chris.
Resigning from the Academy…
The following day that followed, that is Monday 29,saw Will Smith issue out an official apology . The apology highlighted the fact that Smith “was out his line and was wrong.”
Friday 1st 2022, reports if Will Smith’s resignation surfaced. At first people thought it was a Fool’s Day joke.However,on confirmation from the official sources, it was proved true.
“I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate'” read part of Smith’s letter.
Lessons Learnt..
Regardless of our shortcomings, we shall never walk alone. It is true Will Smith did slap Chris Rock. Its an act of violence that is not acceptable. However , fellow actors and celebrities such Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry among others were there to console Smith.
When we go wrong, its always good to apologize, however hard it may seem. Apparently , Jada stuffers from alopecia, a condition that sees one lose their hair. Chris making a joke out of it doesn’treally sound cool. Nevertheless, Will Smith came out to apologize as well as resign from the Academy.
Good character exceeds the few times we fall down.Barely thirty minutes that Sunday ater Will Smith slapping Chris,the former was announced winner Best actor for his role in “King Richard.”But that is not all; The crowd packed in Dolby Theatre where the ceremony was taking place gave Will a standing ovation.
Many have mixed feelings on this. How can a standing ovation be given to someone who has just slapped another person barely thirty minutes ago?
The only answer that is fit for this question is that people were not standing up for Will Smith slapping of Chris but rather his character and great talent, the hard work put in to be best actor. Even during his days when he was a rapper, Smith abstained from using vulgar language in his songs. That is the person whom people availed a standing ovation.
Think before you act. Apparently one of would have thought Chris Rock had already researched the jokes he would have to make at the ceremony not just jumping out of the blue with unthoughtful words. For God’s sake Jada Smith is a patient suffering from alopecia, why in the world would Chris make it a joke?
Even in bad days, there is something good. At the moment the community of people suffering from alopecia have thanked the fact that this incident occurred. World wide people are now speaking about alopecia and the awareness has been so magnificent and they too condemned Chris for the unthoughtful joke.
