A very special occasion on the school calendar, the prom party comes once a year. Gone are the days when Rubongi Army Secondary School would hold a farewell party or leaver’s party.
As Mr. Opolot John, the Chairperson of the organizing committee, put it, Rubongi Army SS has moved beyond that level. They now hold a prom party instead of a farewell party. Though one could argue that it’s the same celebration but with a different name.
How the Prom Party Went:
Despite having fought tooth and nail to ensure the party begins on time, the party started almost one hour later. As they say, a bad beginning makes a good ending. The organizers and candidates, who were the main celebrants of the occasion, braced themselves for the day.
At around 11:00 AM, the candidates made their entrance into RASS Gardens (the school field). Enthusiastic onlookers, especially from the lower classes, cheered them on, marveling at the smartness, beauty, and fashion on display.
To cap it all off, the final entrance was made by the Prom President, Akooki David, and his First Lady, Ekwaro Mable. The audience gave them a standing ovation.
Speeches Made at the Prom Party
Mr. Katongole Gideon, speaking on behalf of all class-teachers, requested the school administration to give students space to enjoy their day. This was received by thunderous applause from the students, who nodded their heads in acknowledgement.
Akooki David, the Prom President, also made a speech where he thanked Major Zaina Nalukenge, the Head Teacher of Rubongi Army Secondary School, for her motherly love. His short and precise speech earned him more love and admiration from the audience.
The academic office also reminded the learners not to get carried away and forget that there is still education ahead. This speech was delivered by Mr. Senyonga Adam, the Deputy Head Teacher Academics, accompanied by Mr. Ahabwe Sadiq, the Assistant Director of Studies (DOS).
The last speech of the occasion was made by the Chief Guest, who happened to be the Head Teacher herself. She began by thanking the students for working hard as a team to make the party possible. She then urged them to use that same teamwork to study and form discussion groups.
Presentations and Final Dance
Despite the fact that time was not on their side, the Master of Ceremonies, led by Mr. Mugisha Living, gave an opportunity to learners who had registered for presentations. Some of the presentations were performed as interludes between speeches.
Tororo’s youngest and most talented musician, Gift Risa, who is also a student at Rubongi Army, gave a breathtaking performance. He sang his famous songs: “Ngato,” “Ex,” and “I’m Proud to be in RASS.”
Additionally, there were performances from Big Brain and Wembley Mo. These young talents entertained their peers as the day progressed towards the climax—the final dance.
