First things first, before talking about International Nurses Day, let’s get somethings straight.In today’s progressive society, it is essential to acknowledge that nursing is a profession open to both men and women.

In addition, the outdated gender-based stereotypes that confined nursing to women alone have been shattered by the new generation.Nurses now comprise individuals from all walks of life, irrespective of their gender. It is in honor of these dedicated professionals that we celebrate International Nurses Day.

What is International Nurses Day?

Every year on May 12th, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, the world comes together to commemorate International Nurses Day.

Moreso,this significant day is celebrated by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) as a tribute to the remarkable contributions made by nurses globally.

Nurses in Uganda have faced considerable challenges while carrying out their duties. Despite the perception that they receive substantial salaries as “scientists,” the reality paints a different picture.

Many nurses have struggled, particularly in terms of professional advancement. Starting with a certificate, it becomes their responsibility to continuously upgrade their studies to achieve their personal and career goals.

Breaking Barriers and Pursuing Excellence

In Uganda and beyond, it is crucial to recognize the hardships faced by nurses and support their endeavors to break barriers and pursue excellence in their profession.

Furthermore, this includes providing them with ample opportunities for professional development, education, and specialization.

By investing in the growth of nurses, we invest in the overall improvement of healthcare systems and the well-being of communities.
