The Childhood Life Of Costa Leyden

Costa Leyden reflects on her early years, describing them as quite normal. Though her peers may have called her stubborn, she saw herself as humble, down-to-earth, and even a bit shy. Her educational journey began at Kamwokya Islamic Primary School, and she went on to study at Kitante Hill School for her O levels and at St. Joseph’s High School Namagunga for her A levels. Eventually, she pursued a Finance degree at Makerere University Business School. When asked about further studies, she revealed that she has no current plans for higher education.

Embracing Modeling and Joining the Modeling World

So, what drove Costa Leyden to pursue a career in modeling? “My body shape was always reminiscent of models, and I grew up being called a model. That, combined with my deep love for modeling, naturally steered me toward the runway. In my first year of university, I chose to become a model,” revealed Costa Leyden. Shy and inexperienced, she faced the auditions with determination. Despite initial setbacks, she attended rigorous training sessions and honed her skills, gradually building the confidence needed to excel in the fashion world.

Facing Challenges with Courage and The Mentor: Doreen Kabareebe

Costa Leyden speaks openly about one of the toughest moments during the Final competition at Top Model Uganda. “Although I expected to win,” she confesses, “things didn’t go as planned. I experienced a moment of doubt, but with the support and counseling of various individuals, I regained my morale and strength to continue the pursuit of my dreams.” On the other side, working with Doreen Kabareebe, a well-known figure in the industry, has been an enjoyable experience for Costa Leyden. She praises Doreen for her down-to-earth nature, her aversion to model exploitation, and her invaluable advice, which has been nothing short of life-changing.

Sources of Inspiration and Advocating for a Cause

“I honestly look up to Judith Heard, a model with three kids who continues to grace runways. On an international level, I find myself drawn to Bella Hadid, one of the world’s highest-paid runway models,” reveals Leyden. Costa Leyden’s commitment to giving back to society is commendable. Currently, she is working on a campaign against domestic violence called #yogela_totya. The campaign was launched at Exodus College School, Wakiso, and aims to spread awareness to different schools across Uganda.
