What happened to Gen. Sabiiti Muzeeyi?
KAMPALA, Uganda — September 13, 2025 — Maj. Gen. Steven Sabiiti Muzeeyi, the General Manager of Luwero Industries under the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), was on Saturday evening airlifted to Kampala after being involved in a serious road accident along the Lwengo–Kampala highway.
According to sources, the accident occurred as the former Deputy Inspector General of Police was traveling back from Ssembabule District, where he had attended the giveaway ceremony of President Museveni’s granddaughter, Nsasiirwe Keinembabazi Karugire.

His convoy was reportedly hit by a Fuso lorry loaded with cows, leaving his vehicle mangled beyond recognition. Emergency response teams rushed to the scene, and given the extent of the injuries, a military helicopter was immediately dispatched to airlift him to Kampala for specialized treatment.
Maj. Gen. Sabiiti’s wife, who was also in the vehicle, sustained injuries in the crash. The full details of her condition remain unclear. Security and medical teams confirmed that the General was stabilized upon evacuation and is now receiving close monitoring in Kampala.
Although no official statement has yet been issued by either the Uganda Police or the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), reliable sources indicate that Maj. Gen. Sabiiti is in stable condition and responding to treatment.
A Profile of Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeeyi
Maj. Gen. Steven Sabiiti Muzeeyi is a highly respected figure within Uganda’s security establishment. Born on December 1, 1975, in Mbarara District, he attended Ntare School before joining Mbarara High School for his A-level education. He later graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, earning First Class honors.

He pursued further military education at the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College and also trained in Russia. A graduate of the prestigious National Defence College in Kenya, his military career began in the late 1990s and steadily rose through the ranks.

He was once Commander of the Military Police before being appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in March 2018, a position he held until December 2020. During his tenure, he was credited with efforts to professionalize the Uganda Police Force and streamline security operations across the country.
Before his time at the police, Sabiiti was second-in-command of the Special Forces Command (SFC), a unit tasked with the protection of the President and other strategic national interests. In February 2021, he was appointed General Manager of Luwero Industries, one of the key subsidiaries of NEC, responsible for defence manufacturing and military infrastructure projects.
National Concern
Given his current role at NEC and his extensive service in both the police and the army, Maj. Gen. Sabiiti’s health is of great public and institutional concern. The accident has also reignited discussions around road safety in Uganda, especially regarding the risks posed by heavy trucks transporting livestock and other goods along major highways.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, and the public is urged to await official updates from the UPDF and Uganda Police.
