The first-ever Western Uganda Universities Debate Championship (WUUDC) was a resounding success. Furthermore, it showcased a new wave of intellectual talent. The event, held at Bishop Stuart University, perfectly coincided with Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations. Consequently, the campus was buzzing with energy, creativity, and competitive spirit.

Unlike the rival camps in the movie Camp Rock 2, this championship was built on genuine collaboration. Moreover, the newcomer, WUUDC, proved there is real room for everyone in Uganda’s debate sphere. Their goal was simple: to unite and amplify young voices. Therefore, the event became a true celebration of unity and intellectual growth.

What better way to mark a nation’s freedom than by empowering its future leaders? The Western Uganda Universities Debate Championship offered a powerful answer. Instead of just traditional celebrations, this event highlighted intellectual prowess. The championship ran successfully at Bishop Stuart University. Importantly, it featured eight universities from across Western Uganda. These institutions battled it out in three key areas: public speech, debate, and poetry. Ultimately, the event was a vibrant showcase of talent and passion.

Such a significant event cannot happen without strong support. The organizers expressed deep gratitude to their partners. These partners provided selfless backing that made the championship possible.
Key partners included Sprout Africa Youth Initiative (SAYI Africa), SoarAway Uganda, and The Lions Sports Academy. Additionally, Youth In Action, Tayari West TV, and Live A Dream played crucial roles. Their combined efforts ensured the event was a seamless and impactful experience for all participants.

The management of Bishop Stuart University received special thanks for agreeing to host the inaugural championship. The organizers stated they were “forever indebted” for the university’s warm hospitality. The venue provided the perfect atmosphere for learning and competition.

Western Uganda Universities Debate Championships Debate Champions 2025
After intense competition, a champion emerged. The Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Debate Society was crowned the winner of the first-ever WUUDC. This victory was especially impressive due to their dominance in the final round.

MUST had two teams advance to the championship final. Remarkably, these two teams ranked first and second. This clear sweep solidified MUST’s position as the 2025 debate champions. The university was praised for its strong representation and exceptional skill.

While MUST took the overall team title, individual stars also shone in specific categories. These students demonstrated exceptional skill in public speaking and poetry.
·Public Speaking Champion: Kirabo Pearl Gift from Kampala International University-Bushenyi captivated the audience with her oratory skills.

·Poetry Champion: Nowandida Daizy from Uganda Technical College-Bushenyi moved listeners with her creative and powerful poetic performance.

Inspiring the Youth: The Role of the Chief Guest
The awarding ceremony was graced by a special chief guest, Mr. Katahweire Oscar. His presence added significant value to the event. He addressed the young participants, focusing on a crucial topic: career development.

His talk provided timely insights for the youth being trained in various institutions. Essentially, he helped bridge the gap between academic life and the professional world. The attendees surely gained valuable knowledge for their future endeavors.
