In 2025, Dstv MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv, implemented price adjustments across various regions, including South Africa and Nigeria, reflecting the company’s response to economic pressures such as inflation, currency depreciation, and rising operational costs. These Dstv multichoice subscription increments, effective at different times depending on the region, have impacted the subscription fees for DStv packages, with the price range varying based on the bouquet and market.

In South Africa, MultiChoice announced its annual DStv price adjustments on March 17, 2025, with the new prices taking effect from April 1, 2025. The adjustments were described as “considered” to balance the financial pressures faced by households while enhancing value through additional features and channels. The updated price range for key DStv packages in South Africa for 2025 is as follows

DStv Premium: Increased from R929 to R979 per month, a rise of approximately 5.4%.

DStv Compact Plus: Rose from R619 to R659 per month, an increase of about 6.5%.

DStv Compact: Adjusted from R469 to R499 per month, up by roughly 6.4%.

DStv Family: Went from R329 to R339 per month, a modest 3% increment.

DStv Access: Increased from R139 to R149 per month, reflecting a 7.2% hike.

DStv EasyView: Remained unchanged at R29 per month.

Additionally, South African subscribers were informed that a VAT increase to 15.5%, effective May 1, 2025, would further adjust prices, with the exact impact to be communicated in April 2025. MultiChoice emphasized value additions, such as an extra concurrent stream for Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact subscribers, and new channels like SuperSport Action and Africa Magic Showcase for Compact users, to offset the price hikes.

In Nigeria, MultiChoice announced a price increment effective March 1, 2025, citing the rising cost of operations due to naira depreciation and high inflation. This adjustment followed a previous hike in May 2024, reflecting a pattern of frequent revisions in response to economic challenges. The 2025 price range for DStv packages in Nigeria includes

DStv Premium: Increased from N37,000 to N44,500 per month, a 20.3% rise.

DStv Compact Plus: Rose from N25,000 to N30,000 per month, up by 20%.

DStv Compact: Adjusted from N15,700 to N19,000 per month, a 21% increment.

DStv Confam: Went from N9,300 to N11,000 per month, an 18.3% increase.

DStv Yanga: Increased from N5,100 to N6,000 per month, up by 17.6%.

DStv Padi: Rose from N2,500 to N4,400 per month, a significant 76% jump.

The Nigerian adjustments sparked frustration among subscribers, with many voicing concerns over the frequency of price hikes and perceived lack of service improvements, though MultiChoice maintained that the increases in the dstv multichoice subscriptions were necessary to sustain quality content delivery.

Across both regions, the 2025 price increments reflect MultiChoice’s strategy to navigate economic headwinds while attempting to retain subscriber value through enhanced offerings.
