Sedrick impresses President Museveni at Baralegi State Lodge

A Moment That Stirred the Nation

In a moment that drew admiration and applause from the entire audience, Sedrick Otolo, a young IT professional and community leader from the Lango Subregion, made a heartfelt appeal to the President that resonated across the room — and across the region.

As the President addressed journalists and members of the media fraternity from the Lango Subregion, Sedrick rose to speak — not for himself, but for thousands of young innovators and creators across Northern Uganda who continue to strive for impact with limited resources and institutional support.

When Sedrick met President Museveni at Baralegi State Lodge

A Call for an Innovation Hub in Lango

Sedrick passionately requested the establishment of an Innovation Hub for the Lango Region, one that would also serve the broader Northern Uganda. He explained that this idea has been his personal pursuit and prayer for over four years, marked by continuous back-and-forth engagements to explore how such a center could be made possible.

“Your Excellency,” Sedrick said, “this has been my prayer for over four years. I have been moving back and forth, trying to find ways of building an Innovation Hub for our region — a space where young innovators from Northern Uganda can create, learn, and grow without having to travel to Kampala every time.”

The audience erupted in applause, recognizing the sincerity and urgency in his voice.

Speaking for the Untapped Talent

Sedrick also raised another powerful point — urging the government to support and accredit talented young people who may not be fluent in English but possess extraordinary technical or creative skills. He emphasized that many young Ugandans with unique talents often remain unrecognized simply because of language barriers.

His message was clear: innovation and creativity know no linguistic boundaries.

The President’s Response

The President, visibly impressed, applauded Sedrick for looking beyond personal interests and speaking on behalf of the youth. He praised his vision and passion for community growth, noting that the call for an innovation hub was both timely and strategic.

In a remarkable gesture, the President requested to meet Sedrick personally at State House, signaling a possible turning point for youth-led innovation efforts in Northern Uganda.

The Team Behind the Vision

Behind Sedrick’s powerful words is a dedicated team of young visionaries working tirelessly to empower others through projects centered on digital skills training, youth empowerment, and community innovation across the Lango Subregion.

Their initiatives — from tech mentorship programs and youth capacity-building camps to local innovation challenges — continue to open doors for hundreds of young people eager to learn, build, and create solutions that improve lives within their communities.

A Defining Chapter for Young Innovators

This moment at Baralegi was not merely a highlight of one young man’s courage; it was a defining chapter for a generation determined to build Northern Uganda’s future through innovation, collaboration, and faith.

As Uganda continues to invest in science, technology, and youth development, Sedrick Otolo and his team stand as living proof that dreams backed by persistence can indeed capture the nation’s attention — and move leaders to act.
