Vipers Sports Club, fondly known as “The Venoms,” has made history in the 2024/25 season by winning both the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) and the Stanbic Uganda Cup. This remarkable domestic double, capped with a thrilling Uganda Cup victory today, May 31, 2025, showcases Vipers’ dominance and cements their place as Uganda’s footballing powerhouse.

A League Title to Remember

Vipers clinched their seventh UPL title earlier this month with a stellar performance, finishing with 69 points after a 1-1 draw against Soltilo Bright Stars at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende. Star striker Allan Okello led the charge, scoring 19 goals to claim the Golden Boot. The team’s attack was unmatched, netting 48 goals, while their defense conceded just 14, making them the league’s best in both areas.

Under co-coaches John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, Vipers overcame an early season loss to NEC FC, finishing with 26 wins, 5 draws, and only 2 losses in 33 games. This triumph tied them with Express FC for the third-most UPL titles, with their passionate fans celebrating the unveiling of the new UPL trophy.

Uganda Cup Glory at Kadiba Stadium

Today 31st May 2025, Vipers added the Stanbic Uganda Cup to their cabinet, defeating KCCA FC in a gripping final at the brand-new FUFA Kadiba Stadium. The Venoms’ disciplined and dynamic display ensured they became the first team to lift the newly designed Uganda Cup trophy. Key players like captain Milton Karisa were rested in the final league match to shine in this crucial game, proving the team’s depth and focus.

The breakthrough came early in the fifth minute when Vipers’ evergreen defender Livingstone Mulondo rose highest to head home a pinpoint corner, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Mulondo, who was later named man of the match, proved to be the difference-maker, with his goal sparking wild celebrations among the Vipers faithful. The Venoms sealed the victory in the second half when star forward Yunus Sentamu, doubled the lead, silencing the KCCA supporters in the stands. Despite KCCA’s efforts to mount a comeback, Vipers’ resolute defense, led by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu, stood firm.

“We knew KCCA would come at us with everything they had, but we were prepared for the occasion,” said Vipers co-coach Fred Muhumuza in a post-match press conference. “This is a special moment for the club, our players, and our fans. To win the double again is a testament to our hard work and commitment.”

A Season of Strength and Style

The 2024/25 season showcased Vipers’ resilience. After a rocky start, the coaching duo turned the campaign around, leading the team to 21 clean sheets and 55 goals across all competitions. St. Mary’s Stadium, their 25,000-capacity home, was a fortress where fans cheered every goal and celebrated every trophy.

A Bright Future Ahead

With the domestic double secured, Vipers now set their sights on the 2025/26 CAF Champions League. Their past success, including a group stage appearance in 2022/23, fuels hope for continental glory. Guided by patron Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the Venoms are ready to take on Africa’s best.
