It’s excitement in the building for the much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, Kenya has welcomed 68 match officials from over 30 CAF Member Associations who will oversee proceedings throughout the tournament. The officials, comprising 26 referees, 26 assistant referees, and 18 Video Match Officials (VMOs), arrived in Nairobi and immediately embarked on their pre-tournament training camp held at the Police Sacco grounds.
Kenya at the Centre of CHAN 2024 Operations
This year, CAF has designated Kenya as the official command center for all match officials involved in CHAN 2024. That means referees and assistants will be stationed at The Glee Hotel in Nairobi and will return there after officiating assignments in Uganda, Tanzania, or Zanzibar — the tournament’s co-hosts.Kenya’s own Nyagrowa Dickens Mimisa leads the local delegation of officials. The seasoned referee, who previously officiated at the AFCON U20 in Cairo, is one of the standout names expected to bring experience and integrity to the continental showpiece.

Training and Preparation
Ahead of the opening fixtures, the match officials have undergone comprehensive physical and technical training to ensure top-tier performance. The focus areas include:
- Use of VAR technology
- Game management
- Fitness and agility drills
- Decision-making in high-pressure moments
