Understanding the Youth Change Maker Award

The Youth Change Maker Award, presented by the global nonprofit Peace First in partnership with EMY Africa, celebrates exceptional young leaders aged 18 to 30 who are driving transformative social change and peace-building across the continent. Peace First, founded in 1992 as a Boston-based organization and now operating globally, empowers young people as natural problem-solvers by providing training, funding, and resources to turn their ideas into impactful movements—having supported over 10,000 youth projects worldwide focused on conflict resolution, equity, and community resilience.

The award itself is a key category within the EMY Africa Awards, an influential platform launched in 2016 that honors excellence, leadership, and cultural innovation through annual ceremonies, storytelling, and networking events. Now in its 10th year, the 2025 EMY Awards—set for November 22 in Accra, Ghana—draw thousands of nominees and voters, spotlighting Africa’s rising stars in categories spanning arts, business, and activism. Mulindi stands among a distinguished shortlist, including nominees from Angola, Morocco, Cameroon, and Ghana, underscoring the award’s role in amplifying diverse voices shaping Africa’s future.

An alumnus of the African Leadership Academy in South Africa and a Lincoln Scholar at Centre College in the USA, Mulindi has amassed a trail of accolades, including the 2024 Mitsubishi Challenge for his carbon-capturing irrigation system, the Anzisha Prize Fellowship for sustainable agriculture in refugee settings, and representation of youth at COP28. Under his stewardship, SOLFA earned a nomination for the Earthshot Prize, selection for the QBE AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge’s top 50 innovations, and contributed to Uganda’s national youth statement on climate change ahead of LCOY 2025.

Lasting Impact and Inspiration

Mulindi’s nomination for the Youth Change Maker Award reflects not just his personal triumphs but SOLFA’s grassroots model: bridging local challenges with global strategies through policy advocacy, youth mentoring, and partnerships. As he prepares for the EMY ceremony, Mulindi remains committed to the belief that “sustainable development must begin with those most affected.” Whether securing the win or not, his journey inspires a new generation of changemakers to lead with empathy and ingenuity.
