June 27, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA | Ugandan-American basketball player Arthur Kaluma has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, marking a major career milestone and a historic moment for Ugandan basketball. The deal gives the 23-year-old forward a chance to earn a full-time roster spot through the NBA Summer League and training camp.
Who is Arthur Kaluma?
Arthur Kaluma was born on March 1, 2002, in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Irving, Texas. He first rose to prominence in high school at Dream City Christian School in Arizona, where he averaged over 24 points and 9 rebounds per game. His talent earned him scholarship offers from top basketball programs across the United States.

Kaluma began his college basketball journey at Creighton University, where he was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team. He averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in his first year, increasing his output in his second season before transferring to Kansas State. There, he led the team in rebounding and posted 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
For his final collegiate season, Kaluma transferred to the University of Texas, where he averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. One of his standout performances came against Auburn, where he exploded for 34 points, shooting 12-of-16 from the field and 5-of-6 from three-point range.
A Versatile Weapon
Standing at 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 225 pounds, Kaluma is known for his versatility on both ends of the court. With a wingspan nearing 7 feet 1 inch, he can guard multiple positions, rebound effectively, and stretch the floor with reliable three-point shooting. His athleticism and defensive instincts make him a promising fit for modern NBA schemes.
How long does his new contract last?
The Exhibit 10 contract is a one-year, non-guaranteed deal that allows Kaluma to join the Lakers for Summer League action in July and potentially attend training camp in the fall. If he does not make the Lakers’ final roster, he can still earn a bonus of up to $75,000 by playing for the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate.

This contract structure offers a path to a two-way or standard NBA deal, depending on his performance over the next few months. The Lakers, known for identifying and developing under-the-radar talent, will be watching closely.
International Career and Ugandan Roots
In 2020, Kaluma acquired Ugandan citizenship and joined the Uganda national basketball team, the Silverbacks. He played a major role in Uganda’s historic run to the quarterfinals of the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket tournament, averaging 13.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He has since been a regular figure in FIBA qualifiers, playing alongside his brother, Adam Seiko.
Kaluma’s rise represents a major victory for Ugandan basketball, signaling the increasing visibility and potential of African players on the global stage.
What Happens Next
Kaluma is expected to debut with the Lakers during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, starting July 10. Strong performances could lead to a more secure spot within the Lakers’ system or a full NBA contract.
Whether he lands a two-way deal, remains in the G League, or earns a place on the Lakers’ roster, Arthur Kaluma has already made history. He is one step closer to becoming Uganda’s first active NBA player and is an inspiration for young athletes across the continent.
