My full legal name is Gift Grace Achilla. When it comes to my parents’ names, what they do for a living, and the exact names of my siblings, I intentionally choose not to share those details publicly. Being an active frontliner and human rights defender in Uganda comes with unique security risks. I prefer to keep my family completely out of the public domain so they are not unfairly targeted or compromised because of my political stances, legal petitions, or online activism.
What was the most defining part of Gift Grace Achilla’s childhood?
The absolute anchor of my childhood was the time I spent with my sweet grandmother. Every single year, I looked forward to December because it meant traveling to spend the Christmas holidays with her. Those moments were filled with immense love, traditional grounding, and laughter. It was during those formative years in a warm family environment that I learned the core values of community, hospitality, and standing up for others, which eventually shaped my worldview as an upstander in society.

My educational journey started at Victory Kindergarten and Primary School, where I completed my early primary studies. After high school, I joined Uganda Christian University (UCU) at the main campus in Mukono, where I pursued and completed a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). To be completely honest, I chose that specific degree because I had scoring points to qualify for it, and quite frankly, I always loved the idea and the prestige of being called a lawyer. I recently achieved one of my biggest milestones by finishing my Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Centre (LDC).

Immediately after leaving school, my very first formal employment was working as a Data Entrant at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development. It was a rigorous, highly structured corporate environment that taught me a lot about data management, public systems, bureaucracy, and the critical importance of transparency within public offices.
How did Gift Grace Achilla transition into digital strategy and social media?
Before 2019, I was actively utilizing different social media platforms, but I completely avoided Twitter, which is now X. Everything changed in 2019 when I decided to run for the political position of Member of Parliament (MP) Residents while at the UCU Mukono campus. During the campaigns, I quickly realized that the vast majority of the students and voters I needed to reach were actively using the app.
I had heard so many wild stories about the intense banter, the endless debates, and the sharp digital culture on the app, so I finally decided to create an account. The platform instantly became home. Over the years, I made deep friendships, created viable commercial streams, built a solid professional name, and operated under the prominent username “The Violent One.” I kept that title for a long time, but I recently changed it after being officially elected into the office of the UOX President. What inspired Gift Grace Achilla to run for the UOX Presidency?
My decision to run for the leadership of the Ugandans on X community came from a deep, internal conviction to lead, to serve, and to ensure that the voices of young people are clearly heard by the masses. X has evolved from a basic entertainment application into a major civic landscape that heavily shapes national politics, accountability, and community mobilization in Uganda. I wanted to step up to ensure that our online energy translates into measurable, real-world impact for the ordinary user.
How did Gift Grace Achilla feel after winning the UOX election?
The primary emotion I felt the exact moment I was declared the winner was absolute relief. The election campaign period was incredibly tense, and the digital tracking and debates were heavy. To make matters even wilder, I wasn’t even inside the country when the final voting and results announcements were happening, so tracking the data from afar amplified the anxiety. It was hard to believe at first, but knowing the community trusted me to take the wheel from Nova Kwikiriza was deeply humbling.
What are the main goals of Gift Grace Achilla’s UOX presidency?
My administration is focused heavily on three major pillars designed to transform our online space into a structured, impactful community:
- Advocacy: We are going to drive visible, tangible impact by organizing youth-led dialogues, digital networking events, leadership development modules, and physical community projects. We want to give online conversations a clear, constructive purpose.
- The Legal Shield: As a professional lawyer, I am setting up a dedicated, pro-bono legal support desk under UOX to protect our members against digital harassment, cyber-bullying, and unlawful arrests resulting from their online expressions. I want to completely dismantle the bystander effect in Uganda, where citizens mistakenly believe that remaining silent protects them from systemic injustice. We will actively support grassroots accountability movements like the March to Parliament campaigns, the Pothole Exhibitions, and mutual fundraisings.
- Inclusivity and Transparency: We are expanding our shared togetherness far beyond the digital app. This means setting up physical mental health awareness campaigns, legal aid clinics, free medical outreach clinics, and social community events like football matches. Alongside this, my office will maintain strict, measurable transparency and accountability regarding all our community projects.
How can youth make money on X according to Gift Grace Achilla?
The reality of the modern digital economy is that absolutely anyone can make money on X, provided they master the art of consistency. You have to focus on organic account growth, delivering highly engaging content, and building a distinct niche.
Once you scale your visibility and engagement metrics, monetization streams through brand endorsements, digital strategy gigs, and platform ad revenue sharing become highly accessible. We are also looking into reviving a community savings and credit cooperative (UOX SACCO) specifically to drive financial inclusion for the omuntu wawansi on the app.
How will Gift Grace Achilla tackle cyberbullying on social media?
Cyber-bullying and targeted online harassment have been persistent issues within the Ugandan digital space for a very long time. Fortunately, if you look at the current trends on the timeline, the level of toxic behavior has noticeably reduced compared to previous years. As to how we will completely eliminate it, I cannot say I have a single, magical formula right now, but through public awareness campaigns, digital user protection structures, and our upcoming pro-bono legal desk, we will gradually establish a safer, more respectful digital environment.
What does Gift Grace Achilla think about Starlink data costs in Uganda?
I am incredibly glad that Starlink has officially entered the Ugandan telecommunications market. The high cost of internet data has been a massive barrier to digital inclusion and economic empowerment for the youth. The arrival of satellite internet options will fundamentally alter the market by introducing real, aggressive corporate competition against traditional telecom providers, which will naturally force a downward adjustment of data pricing across the country.
How does Gift Grace Achilla’s Karamojong heritage affect her leadership style?
I am a proud, visible Karamojong woman from Abim District, and my heritage defines everything about my character. As Karamojong people, we are naturally born to be bold, proud, and extremely confident. I love that exact trait about myself. It means I do not shy away from confronting difficult situations, I speak my mind with absolute clarity, and I carry the mental resilience required to lead a diverse, often chaotic online community without compromising my core principles.
Who is Gift Grace Achilla’s biggest personal support system?
When passing through my lowest and most confidential personal challenges, my ultimate strength came from having an airtight, deeply loyal support system. My absolute best friend, Apolot Marion Musana, has been the rock who stood by me through thick and thin, helping me find the inner strength to navigate the constant pressures of public life and activism.
What advice does Gift Grace Achilla have for young Ugandan girls?
My direct advice to every young girl looking up to me today is to remain completely unapologetic about who they are in whatever space they occupy. Even in today’s society, some conservative voices still backwardly believe that women solely belong in the kitchen. We have an immense amount of value, intellect, and leadership capability to offer this country as women, and we must continuously occupy the frontlines of change.
What legacy does Gift Grace Achilla want to leave behind?
In the next ten years, I see myself having heavily impacted thousands of lives across Uganda, with a specialized development focus centered on my home region of Karamoja. When my term ends and my work is evaluated, the single, defining word I want people to permanently associate with my personal and professional legacy is simple: The Voice of the People.
