A Look Back at 2025 NSDC Elgon Regionals
The Elgon Region has a history of strong performances. In 2025, Mbale Secondary School won the debate category. Rubongi Army SS also claimed the poetry title last year. This shows consistent excellence from Rubongi Army SS in poetry over two consecutive years.
Regional qualifiers serve as a stepping stone to the national championship. Schools can enter any regional qualifier regardless of their location. For example, an eastern Uganda school could qualify through a central region tournament. However, national regional awards follow the school’s actual location, not their entry point.
Path to Nationals
Advancement to nationals depends solely on qualifier participation. Secondary schools may send a maximum of two teams per school to regionals. The national finals will take place in December 2026. The grand finale will be held in the Ugandan Parliament, continuing the tradition.

This year’s theme focuses on “The Algorithmic Age: Ethics, Safety, Transparency & Accountability.” Participants explored how technology shapes our world. They discussed important questions about digital ethics and responsibility. The theme challenges young minds to think critically about modern challenges.
The Elgon Region has set a high standard for the 2026 championship. Rubongi Army SS leads the pack with their impressive double victory. Other schools like Nyondo SS and Mbale Progressive SS have also shown great potential. The competition promises to be even more intense at the national level.
