Lakeside College Luzira, an Adventist secondary school located in Luzira, Nakawa Division, Kampala, is set to host the inaugural High School Grand Competition organized by The Platform Uganda. This competition will feature essay writing, public speaking, and poetry—making it the first of its kind to combine these genres.

The event aims to bring together multiple schools from Kampala and the Central Region to instill articulation and communication skills among secondary school students.

What The Platform Uganda’s Executive Director Said About the Contest
“The growing use of AI and ChatGPT in education is taking a toll on students’ creativity,” said Edison Masereka, the Competition Convener and Executive Director of The Platform Uganda. “We are building a movement that is not just about organizing competitions; we are building a powerhouse that will restore learner excellence and creativity and promote positive competitiveness among students.”
“We are giving schools a chance to exhibit the giftedness of their learners, and we are giving exceptional learners a platform to shine and be recognized,” he added.

The First of Its Kind
Although there are many competitions today that seek to give young people a platform to express themselves through poetry, public speaking, and debate, The Platform Uganda takes a different approach. According to Choice Namaganda, the Communication Lead at The Platform Uganda, the organization goes further by offering leadership training and mentoring, nurturing communication skills and critical thinking in an era where young people have traded their minds for artificial intelligence software.

The event will take place tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, 2026, and will see students compete in essay writing, public speaking, and poetry. The stage is set, and the judges are ready as pen excellence meets sharp-witted eloquence at this highly anticipated competition.
