On the morning of April 12, 2025, Ugandan music icon Dr. Jose Chameleone, born Joseph Mayanja, touched down at Entebbe International Airport, marking his highly anticipated return after four months in the United States for specialized medical treatment. The AfroBeat legend, known for hits like Mama Mia and Valu Valu, was welcomed by a vibrant crowd of fans, family, and fellow artists, creating an electric atmosphere at the airport.

Where Has Jose Chameleone Been Lately?

Chameleone had been receiving care at Allina Health Mercy Hospital in Minnesota for acute pancreatitis, a condition that sparked widespread concern among his supporters. His return was met with jubilation, as many celebrated his visibly improved health. Social media buzzed with excitement, with posts capturing the moment he stepped off the plane, accompanied by his brother and fellow musician Weasel Manizo, who had been by his side throughout his treatment.

Moments Before Arrival: What Took Place at the Airport?

The homecoming wasn’t without drama—reports surfaced of a brief scuffle between Chameleone’s brother Pallaso and airport security, though it did little to dampen the festive mood. Fans chanted his songs, and some held signs celebrating his 25-year music legacy. The government’s support, including covering his medical costs, was a talking point, with many praising the gesture as a nod to his cultural impact.

Chameleone’s return has reignited speculation about his next moves, with whispers of a potential concert on August 1, 2025, at Kololo Airstrip, organized by Abtex Promotions. For now, the focus remains on his recovery and reunion with loved ones, as Uganda celebrates the return of one of its musical pioneers.
